WINGERTSCHNEGG
WELCOME!
In our founding year, we practiced with the existing vines. In 2001, we planted 2,225 vines in the current spiral training system and, the following year, added a stake next to each vine for inverted stake training. Since 2003, we have harvested an increasing quantity of grapes each year, yielding a fine wine. It has been observed that the Oechsle level increases from the outside to the center of the spiral training system. The Pinot Blanc is bottled the following spring, and the Pinot Noir is aged for over a year in barrique barrels. Every second Saturday of the month, the members meet in the vineyard and work together to ensure a successful harvest. Of course, camaraderie is also an important part of the experience. Every work session is followed by a convivial gathering with homemade food from the vineyard kitchen!
THE IDEA!
The idea for founding the association came to our former member Siegfried Weszkalnys in November 1999. The trigger was a report stating that wine (barrel wine) was cheaper than milk. He wondered what he would do differently if he became a winemaker. In February 2000, the association “Wingertschnegg e.V.” was founded, and a vineyard with a picturesque view of the Donnersberg mountain was acquired from the municipality of Zell im Zellertal. The necessary work is carried out by the members both collectively and individually. An experienced member, an organic winemaker, provides advice in the vineyard and oversees the winemaking process.
